Honoring World Water Day 2014
on March 22, 2014
Today is the U.N World Water Day. World Water Day is held annually on March 22nd as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating March 22nd, 1993 as the first World Water Day.
Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. In 2014, World Water Day is on "Water and Energy".
This video, from IIEA (The Institute of International and European Affairs) explores the deep interconnections between the three essential resources and highlights the need for nexus thinking to help meet the world's needs, as it grows from 7 to 9 billion by 2050.
